ASL & English

1 comment:

  1. There exists a language influence between ASL and English. Although ASL and English seem interdependent, they differ considerably in grammar. For example, in English, the word man is singular and the word men is plural; in ASL the noun sign, MAN, needs a classifier to distinguish between singularity and plurality of the sign MAN. (MAN + CL:1) denotes one man; (MAN + CL:C,C) denotes a group of men...(MAN + CL:2) denotes two men.
Moreover, ASL can borrow the word order from the English language. However, English cannot borrow the sign order from ASL.
